About Mağara Jam

Mağara Jam is Turkey's largest Game Jam event organized every year. In Mağara Jam, participants try to show their talents and develop the best video game from scratch according to the given theme by pushing all their limits within 72 hours. Participants can join to the event either physically or online from wherever they live. Throughout its history, Mağara Jam has hosted thousands of game developers.

About this work

Mağara Jam has been held on itch.io for years, but since they didn't have much control on the platform and ran into various issues over the time, Mağara; the team behind Mağara Jam, had to build their own game jam platform for people to publish and share their games and interact with other members on the community, leaving behind their dependency on itch.io.

So they asked me to design for their website and their team brought it to life. In addition to that, I also worked on additional materials, such as annual event logo, slideshows, several posts and stories for their social media accounts.

Mağara Jam is built around an informal and fun language, due to the event is about making new games, therefore I made designs to reflect on that concept. The event has a long history of using the Troika font before I am working for it, so I wanted to preserve that legacy - and since that font already resembles the fun language of the event, it wasn't that hard for me to create elements centered around it. (okay, maybe a bit!)

Below is a subset of the work I did for Mağara Jam, with the courtesy of the Mağara team. Since the event is organized annually, I was gladly asked more than once event year to work for them. Here is my work for the years I worked for Mağara Jam.

2024

That year's edition of Mağara Jam; "Mağara Jam '24" is going to start soon.

2023

That year's edition of Mağara Jam; "Mağara Jam '23" started on November 16, 2023. Participants had until November 19, 2023 to finish making their games and the finale of the event, where the winners were announced, took place on December 23, 2023.

This is the first year that Mağara Jam built & using their own jam game storefront. Also, the event is now numbered according to the year in which it were organized, whereas in previous years it was the number of events has organized in total.

2022

That year's edition of Mağara Jam; "Mağara Jam #5" started on September 15, 2022. Participants had until September 18, 2022 to finish making their games and the finale of the event, where the winners were announced, took place on October 9, 2022.

This was the last year that Mağara Jam has used itch.io for participants submitting their jam games on.
